Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has ordered the immediate release of motorcycles that have previously been impounded by the County Government. Sakaja ordered the city inspectorate to identify key drop-offs of the motorcycles so that the owners can resume work.
The owners, who had pending cases in court can now breath a sigh of relief since the petitions are to be dropped in due course.
He stated, “Since I took over Nairobi I have worked closely with the boda boda associations. It is true that boda boda operators have been harassed by rogue enforcement officers.”
Mohamed Badi, who happens to be the NMS inspector had stated that Boda Boda riders in the city face harassment from police officers. It shall be recalled that earlier in March, the former Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu had ordered the release of the motorcycles after she hosted a consultative meeting with some of the boda boda stakeholders.
She stated, “I have issued an executive order to the city inspectorate to immediately release motorcycles whose owners are petty offenders who have legit papers for operating.” Sakaja’s new order comes days after he was pronounced the winner of the August 9th General election.
Sakaja has promised to deliver the promises he made while campaigning. His main agenda is to revive the city, and among the key things he has promised to deliver include restoring efficiency in the boda boda sector.
