Outgoing Nairobi Senator Johnson Arthur Sakaja is the newly elected Nairobi Governor. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced him as the winner of the August 9th General election with a total of 811,734 votes. Sakaja was running for Governor in Nairobi on a United Democratic Alliance ticket while Polycarp Igathe who is a top corporate executive was running on a Jubilee ticket.
This comes after the latter accused the Communication Authority of Kenya Director Ezra Chiloba of pulling down his adjacent tallying portal. He argued that the director was being used by the state to frustrate him in updating his supporters how the race was faring. He stated, “As expected, Deep state through, Ezra Chiloba (you are too predictable), have pulled down the results portal. Use this link instead to access all Nairobi polling station forms.”
He promised his supporters of a landslide win and declared himself the winner. He stated, “We won Nairobi. Ignore the propaganda. Follow this link for results as well as a copy all the polling station forms. https://sakaja.ballotbox.co.ke they also tried to disrupt tallying throughout the night. They failed. Thank you Nairobi for the overwhelming support. 56% is not a joke.”
This comes at a time time the country is anticipating for the winner of the presidential election. The issuing of provisional results that had been ongoing seen to have stopped abruptly.
