A new app, Nuvv, launched in Kenya on October 25, 2025, introducing a revolutionary group payments platform designed to make goods and services more affordable amid rising living costs. By enabling users to pool resources through its Split Pay and Group Buy features, Nuvv harnesses the power of community to help Kenyans save money and support one another in a digital twist on the traditional harambee spirit. With Kenya’s inflation rate climbing to 4.6% in September 2025, driven by soaring food prices, many households are cutting back on essentials and seeking bargains, according to a recent NielsenIQ survey. Nuvv addresses this economic strain by offering a platform where users can team up to share costs or buy in bulk for discounts. “Nuvv isn’t just an app; it’s a movement to make everyday needs more accessible,” the company stated at its launch.
The Split Pay feature allows users to create a cart of desired items and share a payment link with friends, family, or supporters—locally or in the diaspora. Contributors can pay directly for the items, bypassing cash transfers and ensuring transparency. For example, a Kenyan student needing school supplies can share a Split Pay link with relatives abroad, who can contribute to the exact items, which are then delivered to the student. This feature is ideal for occasions like birthdays, weddings, baby showers, or charitable causes, eliminating middlemen and ensuring funds go directly to the intended products. Nuvv’s Group Buy feature connects users through Nuvv Spaces, virtual communities similar to WhatsApp or Facebook groups, where people with shared interests—like electronics, farm inputs, or beauty products—can discover and join deals. When a user finds a great offer, they share it in the Space, and others can join to purchase as a group, securing wholesale prices. Each buyer receives their item individually, but the collective order unlocks significant savings. This cooperative model makes high-cost goods more attainable for ordinary Kenyans.
Nuvv’s community-driven approach benefits both consumers and businesses. For users, it stretches budgets by making expensive items affordable through shared costs or bulk discounts. “Anything that touches on an offer or promotion is an attraction point,” said Pauline Achayo, Strategic Insights Lead at NielsenIQ, reflecting the growing trend of cost-conscious shopping in Kenya. For independent sellers, Nuvv is a game-changer. The platform connects merchants with groups of buyers, enabling bulk sales and faster business growth. Sellers can create their own Nuvv Spaces to promote products and attract deal-seeking customers, fostering a social marketplace that boosts sales volumes while offering consumers lower prices. Nuvv also bridges Kenya with its diaspora, allowing Kenyans abroad to support loved ones directly. Instead of sending remittances, diaspora contributors can use Split Pay to fund specific purchases, ensuring their contributions meet real needs. “Nuvv connects Africans in Africa with their counterparts abroad, making it easier to acquire goods and services,” the company noted.
