Police have arrested a young man who is said to be a medical student after the perpetrator unscrupulously faked kidnapping to get money from his parents. The student, a 23-year-old upcoming medical officer is said to have disappeared from home on Sunday, blocked his father and later called his mum claiming to have been kidnapped by unknown people.
Police detectives stated that the man informed his mum that a total of KSh. 70,000 was needed for the kidnappers could let him go. It is after he informed his mother of the incident that he hanged up the call.

His parents immediately reported the matter to the police who started a manhunt to look for the kidnappers. The medical student who was identified as Edwin Kamau consistently kept on telling his parents to send him the money since the kidnappers were impatient and they were almost eliminating him.
Shocked by the incident, Kamau’s parents decided to send the first instalment of ksh 10,000 to ‘save’ their son. However, without their knowledge, that was the money Edwin had planned to spend with a lady he had just met in a night club. However, to his shock, the lady stole from him.
A report from DCI read, “Immediately Kamau received the initial Ksh.10,000, he went to a club in Thika to irrigate his throat and make merry in the company of a babe he had met. And as fate would have it, the woman turned out to be a pishori admin who laced his drink with an unknown substance and stole the cash.”
On Thursday, Kamau told his parents that the kidnappers were demanding more money, and her parents sent him ksh.40,000. Without his notice, DCI has begun tracking the number. Finally, the police caught up with him and took him for questioning. He argued that he was trying to recover school fees money that he had already squandered.
