In a recent address, Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier, a prominent leader of the G9 Family and Allies gang coalition in Haiti, sternly cautioned any foreign entities contemplating intervention in the Caribbean nation. He unequivocally pledged to resist any transgressions against human rights on Haitian soil, vowing to persist in this resistance until their final breath.
Cherizier’s message arrives against the backdrop of escalating turmoil in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. As violence surges, renewed calls have emerged for the implementation of an international mission aimed at restoring order within the country.
Expressing his concerns on Wednesday, Cherizier emphasized the determination of the Haitian people to take a stand against any foreign intervention that replicates the misdeeds of past United Nations peacekeeping forces. He pointed to instances of sexual abuse and their connection to a deadly cholera outbreak. “We will engage in an unyielding struggle against them,” Cherizier asserted, “an endeavor driven by the Haitian populace’s aspiration to uphold our nation’s honor.”

Notably, in October, Haiti’s de facto leader, Prime Minister Ariel Henry, appealed to the global community for assistance in forming a specialized armed force aimed at quelling the surge in gang-related violence, which has detrimentally disrupted the daily lives of countless Haitians. However, recent developments indicate Kenya’s willingness to spearhead a “multinational force” under the aegis of the UN Security Council. This initiative aims to collaborate with Haitian law enforcement to reinstate normalcy in the nation.
A Kenyan delegation is anticipated to journey to Haiti imminently to evaluate the feasibility of this potential intervention, given that no nation had previously come forward to lead such a mission. Kenya’s Foreign and Diaspora CS, Alfred Mutua, clarified that this move aligns with the African Union’s diaspora policy and Kenya’s staunch commitment to Pan-Africanism.
In an official statement, CS Mutua announced Kenya’s acceptance to lead the Multi-National Force in response to the Friends of Haiti Group of Nations’ request. The proposed deployment would entail sending 1,000 police officers to train and support the Haitian police force, ultimately fostering the reestablishment of normalcy within the nation while safeguarding critical infrastructures.
CS Mutua further emphasized that this endeavor signifies Kenya’s solidarity with global populations of African descent and their pursuit of “reclaiming the Atlantic Crossing.”
