Ringtone Apoko Faces Wrath of True Homeowners

by Chief Okuzo

In the aftermath of a viral video showing controversial gospel artist Ringtone Apoko engaged in a heated argument with unidentified individuals at a property believed to be his residence in Karen, new developments have emerged. The actual owners of the said property have issued a demand letter through their legal representatives.

The demand letter, seen by Plug TV Kenya, was sent by the lawyers representing the genuine owners of the house identified as Kongkong Paulino Matip, Gabriel Paulino Matip, and John Paulino Matip. The letter addresses the matter of alleged illegal occupation, use, destruction, and deprivation of their property, known as L.R. No. 65555 (Karen).

According to the lawyers’ letter, the rightful owners are Kongkong Paulino Matip, Gabriel Paulino Matip, and John Paulino Matip. They claim to be the legal and beneficial owners of the property, which was registered in the name of their deceased father. The property was acquired from one Juddith Guserwa in 2010. Following their father’s passing, the clients had to travel to South Sudan for the funeral. During their absence, they entrusted a caretaker to look after the property and the belongings left in the compound.

However, upon returning to Nairobi in 2016, Kongkong Matip found that access to the property was denied. It was then revealed that Ringtone Apoko had gained entry to the property, allegedly passing himself off as the owner. Further accusations state that Apoko made unauthorized structural changes to the property, even leasing parts of it to strangers.

After a prolonged seven-year period of being denied access to their property, the rightful owners, with the assistance of the police, managed to reclaim possession on July 21, 2023. Nevertheless, upon reentering their property, they reportedly discovered extensive damage and misuse of their assets. It is alleged that Ringtone Apoko appropriated, misused, sold, or stole various items, including two vehicles—a Toyota VX and a BMW—that were originally on the premises.

The letter also states that during the repossession, Ringtone Apoko, with the help of hired individuals, allegedly caused harm to the rightful owners, leading to legal charges being filed against him.

Now, the lawyers representing the real owners of the property are demanding immediate acknowledgment of liability for forcible detention, illegal use, occupation, and destruction of their clients’ property. The demand includes compensating for the value of stolen property, eviction costs, as well as other incidental expenses. The letter warns that if Ringtone Apoko does not respond within seven days, legal action will be taken against him without further notice.
