Pastor Ezekiel Odero Detained for Seven Days in Mombasa County as Court Rejects Prosecution’s 30-day Plea,” announced the presiding judge in Shanzu. The authorities will continue holding Pastor Ezekiel at the Port Police Station in Mombasa and present him in court again on Thursday as per the ruling.

In his legal representation, Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari emphasized the need to halt the court’s impending ruling on the police’s application for Pastor Ezekiel’s 30-day detention. The defense team argued that the prosecution affidavit submitted by George Muriuki was executed in bad faith and accused the state of attempting to unlawfully seek the limitation of their client’s right to liberty.

“The allegations leveled against Pastor Ezekiel are a wicked attempt to scandalize his name by creating a connection between him and Kilifi cult leader Paul Mackenzie due to a previous commercial transaction that failed,” claimed Pastor Ezekiel’s lawyers.

Furthermore, they stressed the need to properly evaluate their client’s written affidavit refuting the allegations against him, warning that failing to do so would result in a miscarriage of justice. “We urge the court to reconsider its ruling on whether there was sufficient cause to detain Pastor Ezekiel for 30 days, given the serious implications of such a decision on his rights and freedoms,” they added.

Responding to the court’s decision to retroactively date Pastor Ezekiel’s detention to April 27, the legal team vowed to explore all legal avenues available to their client. “We will be studying the ruling carefully and working closely with our client to mount a robust defense in court,” they said.
