The Kenyan Senate has become embroiled in controversy following allegations that their recent visit to Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s church in Kilifi County was funded by the very man facing over 14 charges, including radicalization of his church members, abduction, fraud, and money laundering. The accusations were leveled by Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale, who voiced suspicions about the Senate’s motives in accepting the invitation from the embattled pastor.
The saga began on October 16th when a Senate delegation led by Danson Mungatana descended upon Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s church in Kilifi County. The visit had been prompted by a formal request from the pastor himself, who invited the Senate to inspect alleged crime scenes within his church premises, rumored to include a secret mortuary and gravesites for his church members. However, the presence of 11 senators without their secretarial staff raised eyebrows and fueled speculations of sponsorship by Pastor Ezekiel.

Senator Bonnie Khalwale, never one to shy away from controversy, wasted no time in expressing his concerns. He deemed it highly improbable for the senators to visit the church without expecting financial incentives from the pastor and even suggested that the entire Kilifi trip might have been bankrolled by Ezekiel Odero. Khalwale maintained that the pastor should not be granted any special treatment, given the serious charges hanging over his head.
He further emphasized the urgency of the matter, urging the Senate to clarify whether the committee’s expenses had been covered by Ezekiel or the Senate itself. Danson Mungatana, the committee’s chairman, felt compelled to respond to Bonnie’s allegations. He vehemently denied any financial ties to the pastor and asserted that the visit to Kilifi was funded from their own pockets, with plans to later seek reimbursement from the Senate. Mungatana explained that Senate approval for the trip’s finances had been unattainable within the necessary timeframe, hence the decision to self-fund the visit.
In a surprising twist, Mungatana hinted at a larger conspiracy involving government officials working diligently to undermine the ongoing legal proceedings related to Pastor Ezekiel and Pastor Mackenzie. He vowed to shed light on the individuals responsible for obstructing due process. This controversy surrounding the Senate’s visit to Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s church continues to unfold, raising questions about the true motivations behind this high-profile investigation.
