This Is My Last Term As IEBC Chairman – Wafula Chebukati

by Jayden Musembi

While delivering his official declaration at Bomas, Wafula Chebukati has disclosed that he wouldn’t be part of the elective body in the next election. The IEBC chairman argued that he(Chebukati) faced a lot of harassment and intimidation during the tallying process.

However, he narrated how he maintained his boldness to serve his purpose and role at IEBC. For the first time in Kenya’s elective process, the IEBC provided public access of all votes cast in the portal.

He argued that the results displayed on the portal were similar to those he read today, August 15. In other reports, William Ruto expressed his excitement following the official announcement of his win. He promised to work with all leaders elected to steer the country forward.

While adressing members at Bomas of Kenya, William Ruto promised to work with all stakeholders and deliver to the people of Kenya. He thanked the outgoing president, Uhuru Kenyatta, arguing that he would build on the foundation they started together ten years ago.

He thanked his close opponent Raila Odinga, arguing that together, they sold their agendas to the people of Kenya with a purpose of pushing the country forward.

This comes after four IEBC commissioners stated that they didn’t agree with the outcome of the results that were going to be announced by the IEBC chairman. Kenyans all over the country have continued to celebrate Ruto’s win. What are your thoughts about this story? Kindly share your insights down below.
