Former Makadara Member of Parliament Mike Sonko has ditched Azimio la Umoja camp and joined William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza. In a Facebook message, the DP welcomed the former Nairobi Governor to his camp. Ruto stated, “We welcome Mike Sonko to Kenya Kwanza, the winning team.”
The move comes a few days after Sonko declined supporting Abdulswamad Nassir for the Mombasa seat. While reacting to the Court’s ruling that declined his impeachment appeal, Sonko urged IEBC to allow his running mate Ali Mbogo be allowed to run for Governor.
Sonko argued that if his running mate Ali Mbogo was not on the ballot, he (Sonko) wouldn’t support Abdulswamad Nassir. Sonko stated, “It’s not about Sonko. Clear Ali Mbogo and let him be on the ballot, failure to which we shall support Hassan Omar. Take this to the bank.”
Earlier on Thursday, Mike Sonko lost a bid to have his name included on the ballot. Mike Sonko had previously petitioned the Court to compel the election body to have his name included on the ballot.
Three judges sat on a bench and dismissed Sonko’s argument, stating that the latter has a standing appeal at the East Africa Court of Justice. A couple of days ago, Sonko stated that the Azimio crew played a huge role to have his name excluded from the ballot.
In an interpretation by the Supreme Court, Mike Sonko is very unfit to hold any public office. What are your thoughts on this story? Kindly share your insights down below.
