At least six people have passed on and eight others injured after the matatu they had travelled in collided with a car along Thika Garissa highway. The accident happened at Kwa Majini Bridge in Machakos County.
The deceased are said to have been burnt beyond recognition after a gas cylinder that was inside the matatu burst into flames after the collision. Reports from police stated that the injured were rushed to Matuu Level four hospital for medication.
This comes a few days after another accident was witnessed in Kwale where more than 13 people died after a matatu collided with a truck. Another accident involving an Embassava matatu in Mlolongo saw the banning of public PSVs from accessing the newly built Nairobi Expressway.
Just before the accident happened, the first death case involving a young graduate at the Expressway was witnessed. This saw the Kenya National Highways Authority issue key safety measures on the road to ensure such cases were avoided in the future.
The man was a Real Estate Graduate of the University of Nairobi who had been deployed in Marsabit. Police officers have cautioned road users of careless driving. The death at the Expressway was said to have been initiated by overspeeding.
In the past couple of weeks, many accidents have continued to be witnessed, with police arguing that there has been an increase of death cases this year as compared to last.
