Lee Njiru, the press secretary of the late president Moi has revealed that Moi’s burial arrangements begun a year prior to his death.
He revealed that Mzee Moi’s condition worsened after they noticed that he had been hospitalized for 42 days and that’s when the government started planning for Moi’s burial through the help of a team of officials known to be Moi’s confidant.
Many people don’t know that I together with a senior Cabinet Secretary and a retired intelligence chief, started planning Mzee Moi’s burial in 2019. We had a house in Nairobi where we were mandated by the government to plan,he told Sunday Nation.
He added that Moi’s condition at the Nairobi hospital worsened daily as the former president was constantly put on oxygen and he did not want Moi’s death to catch him unaware.
I noticed Mzee had stayed in hospital for 42 days and was on oxygen and in bad shape. I said we should not be caught unawares. People think burial preparations were done when he died
Lee also recounted on the good and bad memories he had while serving as Moi’s press secretary. He revealed that despite having traveled with former heads of state to various countries, he still faced discrimination at his office, most of which was based on his ethnical background.
I almost got everything one would aspire to have in a lifetime. I have been to all continents, I have worn the best suits. I enjoyed the finest wine and food. I don’t suffer from wanderlust. I have bought a house in Nairobi and bought a piece of land,I was discriminated against by senior officers. They frustrated me left right and center. I went through the hands of the worst tribalists you would ever think of and cannot even wish it on my worst enemy.
Lee Njiru also revealed that he is about to release a book that contains Moi’s secrets that no one knew.
