Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has pushed the re-opening of schools to Thursday next week. In a gazette notice last week the ministry of education had stated that schools will be closed and opened on Monday, July 15th to pave way for the elections.
With the results streaming in, Kenyans are waiting eagerly for the presidential candidate to be announced by the electoral body, IEBC. Parents expressed disappointment after the schools were closed without notice.
Netizens over the Internet similarly urged the Ministry of Education to seek better communication means as this came as a surprise to many more so those with children in boarding schools.
Magoha stated
,’ Following the conduct of our National Elections on Tuesday 9th August 2022 the process of tallying ballots is still ongoing. Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the reopening of ALL Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August 2022 until Thursday 18th August 2022,’
After Covid 19 struck the world many things changed including the academic calendar. Students have spent more time at home rather than at school something that many have been quick to point out.
