Less than 20 days to go to the August polls, the preparedness of the electoral body IEBC is still being questioned as an individual from Venezuela was caught with IEBC stickers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Comarco Gregoria landed at JKIA from London. He was being cleared at around 12pm when airport officials noticed that in his luggage there were items that resembled those of the Interim Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
After the search Comarco had 17 rolls of election stickers belonging to various constituencies . This made the police at JKIA police station to summon IEBC in a bid to clear the air as to whether they were expecting any election materials as the airport security had no information concerning the same.
At the airport there was commotion as security officers at the airport needed IEBC to explain why the manner in which the stickers arrived was unfashionable. Things escalated as the JKIA police officer in charge informed the DCI.
The fact that the election materials were not sealed and were being transported by and individual continued to raise eyebrows. IEBC commissioners are in Greece to inspect the printing of ballot papers ahead of the August polls.
Recently the electoral body insisted on using an electronic voter registry rather than a manual one.
