A day after a modern Coast bus plunged into Nithi River the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has halted the operations of modern Coast with immediate effect. The death toll has risen to 33 by now. Atleast seven routes will be affected .
Wife to the driver of the bus has stated that his husband had complained that the company had not paid his husband since February.
She stated that the husband was complaining on how he will handle the family’s bills and that he needed money to take the Ill fated vehicle to garage.
NTSA further added that a thorough investigation is currently underway.
,’A thorough multi agency investigation into the crash and an evaluation of the operator’s safety operational standards is currently underway,‘ Read a statement from NTSA. The authority also mourned the death of the passengers on board as well as the driver.
Azimio La Umoja’s camp have sent their condolences to the families of those who died being led by Martha Karua and Raila Odinga. After the death toll rose to 33 those injured are currently undergoing treatment at Chogoria Mission hospital.
The bridge has been a black spot over years. In August 2000 there was an accident as 45 people were killed . There was also a Tawfiq bus accident at that time thus the number of people who perished that particular year at the bridge rose to 158.
The accident is said to have occurred at around 6:30pm .
