Jubileee party leader and incumbent Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has urged voters not to vote in leaders who are smooth talkers but rather focus on accountable leaders. The president was rallying for Azimio La Umoja One Coalition addressing residents of Embakasi East where he was campaigning for Raila Odinga and Martha Karua . The president quoted biblical cases reminding the people that the snake was a smooth talker and after Eve ate the fruit the human race has been suffering since then. This sentiments seemed to be addressed to Kenya Kwanza’s Chief flag bearer William Ruto.
,”Don’t vote for smooth-talkers. Vote for just and accountable people. Don’t forget the snake that lied to Eve and made her eat the forbidden fruit. She succumbed to its smooth talk and caused us suffering that persists even today. True or false? Will you accept to be duped,” Kenyatta asked .
With elections just around the corner every presidential hopeful has been selling their ideas to the public with Uhuru Kenyatta supporting the appointment of Martha Karua as Azimio La Umoja One Coalition deputy flag bearer. Uhuru stated that unlike him who has been lenient , Martha Karua will jail all corrupt leaders who the president referred to as ‘thieves’. The president explained that he has been rallying under Azimio more so after the appointment of Martha Karua as he understands her background claiming she has been against corruption since time immemorial.
In a bid to try explain why we have high living times and tough economic conditions, the president stated that this is a global issue and not only a Kenyan issues. Uhuru was quick to ditch William Ruto claiming that the Kenya Kwanza hopeful has been associating himself with the good works of their government yet not taking responsibility when they face challenges.
,”It is true that there is high cost of living, but it is a global issue. We are doing everything possible to lower it. But instead of coming to help us find solutions, and yet he (Ruto) is in government, he is taking credit for the good things but blames me for the high cost of living. Do we have two governments?” the president asked.
On matters peace and unity, Uhuru continued to explain how their handshake with the Azimio flag bearer,Raila Odinga, has helped the country further adding that if leaders purpose to work together even where there are differences then solutions will be found.
,”There’s nothing more important than peace and that is why I am pleading with you to choose peace and ensure the country remains in safe hands. I am not saying this because I have a problem with anyone,” added the president.
There has been trouble in the marriage between jubilee and United Democratic Alliace party (UDA) for some time now. Both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza are leading the race for the presidential seat according to recent polls.
