Imagine going to a foreign country to make ends meet for your family only to come back because your child has been murdered in cold blood by your friend whom you trusted with the lives of your children. What has this world come to?
Maureen Njoki, David’s mother , during an interview with Lynn Ngugi , narrated the events that led to the death of her youngest son, David.
While in Kenya life was not easy for Maureen hence the move to travel to Saudi Arabia for work . Initially , Maureen had left her kids with her grandmother but it didn’t go well since all her focus was on the money Maureen sent monthly but the needs of the kids went unmet.
Maureen told her husband to go get the kids from her grandmother’s place and that when the perpetrator , Njeri, who is still on the run , offered to take the kids in and take care of them as though they were her own.
“ Alianiambiwa nimletee watoto ataniangalilia nikasema ni sawa. Kulingana na ile care alikua anapea Peter akiwa shule nilimtrust. Njeri aliniambka walikuja nitakaa na wao. Nikiangalia mambo Njeri alinifanyia uko nyuma nikaona atanichungia watoto vizuri”
The husband took the kids to Njeri’s place and it all seemed to be going well up until she murdered her son in the presence of Peter, her first child. Peter was instructed to clean the blood stains at Njeri’s house by the caretaker of the building they were staying in.
“ caretaker alimwambia aoshe damu ju si wameua mtoto damu ilimwagika. Peter aliambia arudishe kifunguo ju Njeri wamewrap mtoto wakatoka na yeye ju gate huwa inafungwa . Caretaker asubuhi alienda akapata damu na akaambia Peter aoshe na asiseme”
“saa tisa asubuhi aliua mtoto wakamwrap wakaenda key kwa caretaker wakatoka but hiyo ni Peter alisema”
She stated that her baby’s body was completely disfigured.
“kitu ya kwanza niliona kichwa ya mtoto imeharibiwa haikai kichwa ha mtoto……kuangalia chini ndio ilikua mbaya kabisa alikua amekatwa vidole za mkono”
It’s an extremely sad story that no one deserves to go through hopefully all the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
