The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) is anticipated to conduct it’s last test run for public service vehicle (PSVs) at the Green Park Terminus.
NMS Transport Director Engineer Michael Ochieng said the exercise will kick off today, Wednesday, June 22.
The announcement follows three unsuccessful test runs at the terminal, located at the former Lunar Park, last year.
The NMS transport director accords that the exercise will have two faces with the first one involving PSVs terminating at railways and the second one involving PSVs plying the Ngong and Langata road.
To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, he added enforcement officers would also participate in the practice.
“We will start the operations of the Green Park Bus Terminus this month and we will start it in two phases. These phases will be trial runs, not the main commissioning. Our teams will position themselves at the correct positions while the trials go on what they call in the military rehearsals,” Ochieng said.
The NMS has began the move to decongest Nairobi City by setting out matatu operation terminus outside the Central Business District.
No matatus will be permitted in the CBD after the terminals are finished, NMS stated in March 2022. The organization, under the direction of Major General Mohammed Badi, seeks to lessen congested areas on the city’s main thoroughfares. According to Ochieng, the termini at Green Park, Desai, and Park Road will not be finished by the end of April 2022.
Nairobi Metropolitan Services is a citizen-centric public service that was formed on March 9th 2020 following an agreement that led to the transfer of four core functions from Nairobi City County Government to the National Government.
The four functions carried out are county health services, county transport services, county public works, Utilities and Ancilliary services and county physical planning and development.
