Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka , has stated he is moving to court in a bid to challenge IEBC’S tribunal decision of barring Mike Mbuvi Sonko from contesting in the August polls.
Mike Sonko’s political journey has faced a lot of challenges. He served as the second Governor of Nairobi.
He was removed from the office of the governor by a form of impeachement by the Senate of the Republic of Kenya on Abuse of Office, Gross Misconduct and Crimes under National Law on 17 December 2020. He became the second governor in Kenya to be impeached after Kiambu’s Ferdinand Waititu.
On Monday 20th June , Mombasa county returning officer citing claims of failing to submit his original degree certificate as well as a certified copy of the same and breaching article 75 of the constitution submitted the same to the IEBC tribunal that upheld the decision.
Kalonzo has stated that this is a politically instigated move stating
,” we are going to court and we want justice for Sonko. IEBC know that Sonko has an active appeal in court and these other things they are talking about to do with papers…They are forgetting they cleared him in 2017.”
Kalonzo added that his lawyers will not rest until the matter is solved as IEBC gave Wiper party 72 hours to announce another aspirant.
Sonko said should he fail to to have the decision in his favor, he will consult the poeole for his next move.
