The Impact of AFCON Timing to the English Premier League Clubs.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations is ready to begin, rendering a host of Premier League clubs without numerous key players at a critical juncture in the season.

The scheduling of the competition’s change will likely irritate Premier League coaches, who will face a significant problem in dealing with the absence of their elite players, with some expected to be absent for nearly a month. Nobody more so than Liverpool and The Gunners , who arguably have the most difficult tasks ahead of them.

Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, and Mohamed Salah will all depart from Liverpool for Egypt, Senegal, and Guinea, respectively.

Meanwhile, Arsenal players Thomas Partey, Pierre Aubumayeng, and Nicolas Pepe will travel to Gabon, Ivory Coast, and Ghana.

Manchester City will also be minus Riyad Mahrez of Algeria, the present champions from the previous tournament in Egypt 2019, who will be looking to defend their title.

In total, up to 40 players from 16 different Premier League clubs could be absent. Without a doubt, the tournament will have a negative influence on EPL teams. This effect will be felt even more strongly by teams that have players in nations that proceed to the competition’s advanced stages.
