According to the Kenyan constitution of 2010, it is mandatory for any political leader who wishes to run for a place in any election to have a university degree.
Kenyan Politicians have been accused of buying fake university degrees in a bid to eye for the coveted seats.
Those who have been in the limelight concerning their degrees are the likes of Johnson Sakaja the current incumbent governor , who’s second term could be cut shot as the complainants alleged that Sakaja’s degree is fake that he claims originates from Team University from Uganda .
The petitioners who include ‘Dennis Gakuo Wahome, Evans Kaita, Timothy Ayieko and Alex Musalia’ claim they fail to understand how the governor graduated from Team University and undertook his studies at a time when he was supposed to be in office serving Kenyan citizens.
In his defense Sakaja had the following to say
“Among other qualifications and awards of excellence, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Management degree conferred upon me by Team University in Uganda, having satisfied the requirements for the award. Contrary to the false averments by the complainants, Team University in Uganda is duly recognized in the Republic of Uganda and by convention in Kenya” source Nation.
Others who could be affected by this are Cleophas Malala senator Kakamega County, Mp Simba Arati, and Granton Samboja.
In Kisii County, two voters Moses Wayieko and Wesley Obwangi’ filed a complaint on the Kisii county governship claiming Simba Arati is not educationally qualified to run for the seat.
Arati’s case is a special one, he claimed to have graduated from highschool with a C- and yet at that time with that grade you couldn’t be allowed into any university.
The complainants stated
“Mr Arati did not and could not have been admitted for a degree program at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology and any such purported degree can only be the product of forgery, fraud and corrupt practices’
With the August polls just nearby all politic eyeing for different seats are doing their las minute touches to ensure they are not left out of the race .
