The effects of climate change are witnessed by any normal human being. From the drought in Kenya to the floods in Nigeria, the continent continues to witness different weather conditions. What has left Kenyans amused are the reporting skills of former NTV news presenter Larry Madowo who currently works for CNN. In a post shared by Larry and aired on CNN, Larry can be seen interviewing a woman with their bodies half submerged in water, the camera person using a boat to Ensure she captured every moment.
Nigeria’s climate has been changing, evident in temperature increases; variable rainfall; rise in sea level and flooding; drought and desertification; land degradation; more frequent extreme weather events; affected freshwater resources, and loss of biodiversity. The durations and intensities of rainfall have increased, producing large runoffs and flooding in many places in Nigeria.
Rainfall variation is projected to continue to increase. Precipitation in southern areas is expected to rise and rising sea levels are expected to exacerbate flooding and submersion of coastal lands. Droughts have also become a constant in Nigeria, and are expected to continue in Northern Nigeria, arising from a decline in precipitation and a temperature rise. Lake Chad and other lakes in the country are drying up and at risk.
Kenya on the other hand has witnessed drought In several areas with wild animals also dying from the menace. Netizens took to social media to express their views on Larry’s work some criticizing the journalist while some praised his expertise and the extent to which he went to cover the story. While Objectivity in journalism and good reporting is relevant, some thought this was one way of showcasing the negative side of the continent to the universe.
