Arrow Boy frustrated with Governor Sakaja over unpaid Nairobi festival show

by Chief Okuzo

Kenyan music sensation, Arrow Boy, has fired shots at Nairobi County’s leadership, singling out Governor Johnson Sakaja in particular. The disgruntled crooner took to his Instagram to vent his frustrations after allegedly being stiffed for his performance at the Nai Fest.

In a scathing post, Arrow Boy addressed the governor directly, saying “Dear our Governor Sakaja mambo, imechemka huku nje since we performed at Nairobi festival in December, we have not been paid.” According to Arrow Boy, he was contracted by Homeboyz Agency, but despite repeated attempts to get paid, he and his team have received no response.

The ‘Digi Digi’ hitmaker didn’t stop there, using another Insta story to deliver a stern message to the governor, saying “Governor Sakaja, you were once an artist. You know the struggles we go through as creatives. Kindly, huku nje maisha ni ngumu cheza kama wewe.”

Governor Johnson Sakaja announced the annual Nairobi Festival, a fun-filled fair to be held every December to display and celebrate the “vibe of the city”.

Sakaja said the Festival will be held  annually after the December 12 Jamhuri Day celebrations.

The fete will bring together food, the arts, matatu art awards, as well as exhibitions on designated city streets.

“In December, we will set aside some streets to display culture, food, creativity, have the “nganya” awards for the best done matatus, have rugby, football and basketball tournaments and other activities,” he said.

Sakaja also directed the amendment of “archaic” laws which he said have inhibited photography, videography, film and the creative industry in Nairobi.

“When we say we want to be pro-business it is not just passive to stop harassment of traders but we want to be proactive to facilitate and promote. There are many archaic laws including those that hamper creativity and innovation and we are going to weed those out,” he said
