Kenya has a new face for Presidency as the apex court upheld William Ruto’s victory after Azimio La Umoja One Coalition moved to court to challenge the results announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati.
William Ruto was born on 25th December 1966 in Kamagut, Kenya. He would then go on to become one of the greatest politicians in the history of the land winning the presidential election on his first attempt.
Under Former president Moi’s government, Ruto served as the Minister For Home affairs. He was associated with the Kenya African National Union(KANU), a political party that witnessed him clinch the Member Of parliament’s seat from 1997 to 2013. Ruto was a close friend to Moi and supported Uhuru Kenyatta when Moi endorsed him in 2002.
Fast forward to 2007, Ruto would then declare his interest in vying for the presidency but failed to be nominated as the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) appointed Raila Odinga to be the flag bearer. The latter would then be defeated by Mwai Kibaki in a controversial election that saw political skirmishes emerge and people losing their lives.
Ruto would then join hands with Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 forming The Jubilee Party from URP and TNA respectively. The first years were smooth as the two worked together. Uhuru Kenyatta then shook hands with Rala Odonga and this sparked an uproar. This was in 2018.
He has been campaigning ever since the head of the August polls that have been included. Ruto chooses Gachagua as his deputy flag bearer with others being left out. On August 9th, Kenyans took the ballot..Mr. Chebukati and the other four commissioners were disputed over the elections.
A bid to challenge the petition hit the wall as Raila Odinga Allies filed petitions stating faultiness with the IEBC systems. The supreme court rather in a unanimous manner upheld the decision made by MChebukati. The son of Sugoi has won the hearts of many as different leaders congratulate him on his win.
