Is karma finally catching up with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi? Recent events at his Karen home have left Kenyans expressing their opinions online. Some are suggesting that Matiangi is now facing the consequences of his actions three years ago when he ordered the illegal eviction of Miguna Miguna from Kenya to Canada.
Many users have pointed to the 2018 incident involving the illegal eviction of Miguna Miguna, which Matiangi was accused of orchestrating. They argue that the former CS is now reaping what he sowed, with his own home being raided by the police.
Separated by their world's ideologies. February 2018 and February 2023 – they are both joined by same fate. The story of Miguna Miguna blamed on Fred Matiang'i. The latter fell victim of forceful break into his residence. Both were haunted by Kenya Police. Who has the last smile? pic.twitter.com/EiCLCkKxVY

“Separated by their world’s ideologies. February 2018 and February 2023 – are both joined by the same fate. The story of Miguna Miguna blamed on Fred Matiang’i. Both were haunted by Kenya Police. Who has the last smile?” commented one Twitter user, highlighting the parallels between the two incidents.
Others have been less sympathetic, arguing that Matiangi deserves what he’s getting after what he did to Miguna Miguna.
“Matiang’i did not care about Miguna Miguna when he ordered the police to raid his house, arrest him, drug him, and deport him. Why should I care about him? You trained the dog to attack, don’t cry when it is used against you,” remarked one Twitter user.
Many Kenyans still remember the controversial deportation of opposition supporter and lawyer Miguna Miguna following his role in the unofficial swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga as “the people’s president.” This event drew criticism from Chief Justice David Maraga, who accused the government of failing to comply with court orders to release Miguna on bail.
The government also faced backlash for taking Kenyan TV channels off-air ahead of Odinga’s “inauguration.” Despite this, the opposition leader declared himself “the people’s president” during an unofficial ceremony in Nairobi, which was attended by Miguna.
Miguna’s subsequent arrest and deportation to Canada caused further controversy, with the government arguing that he had lost his Kenyan citizenship due to holding a Canadian passport.
