A police officer from the Buruburu police station is reported to have ended his own life after he was captured on video staggering. The man in uniform is said to have caught the attention of the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai. The police man is said to have been intoxicated, and this didn’t sit well with the IG. However, just before action was taken against him, the perpetrator decided to end his own life.
The police officer is said to have committed suicide at Buru Buru Station residential houses. According to reports, the policeman who was identified as Mr Harrison Mugo ended his life by hanging himself using a rope. The incident is said to have happened at the station’s canteen.
A police report that was issued immediately after his death read, “It was reported by Mr Salim Onteri a grounds man at Buruburu police line that he woke up at 6am for his normal duties near the police canteen when he spotted the deceased hanging on rafters of the burnt police canteen within the police station lines.”
Immediately after the incident was reported, police rushed to the scene led by the Police boss of Kamukunji. After reviewing the victim’s body, it was taken to Mama Lucy morgue. His death came hours after the IG’s office announced that it was aware of a viral video of the police officer.
The National Police Service had termed the behaviour as unprofessional. According to National Police Service, a police officer in uniform should serve as a good example to the society.
