Uproar as Nonini sues an electronic company over copyright infringement

by Chief Okuzo

Legendary rapper Nonini has sued an electronic company over copyright infringement. In a video shared by the rapper through his social media pages, the company is seen using Nonini’s song “Wekamu” synchronized in a video advertising one of their products.

“Syinix Electronics decided to do a very brilliant advert using my song WeKamu. The only problem is they didn’t ask for permission 😬 @syinixelectronics @syinixke” the rapper lamented.

He also urged music right holders to always demand payments from any company or brand that uses their audios without the right holder’s consent.

“Music rightsholders know how to defend their rights, and not having a sync license puts your company at risk. The music industry earns its revenue from copyrights and so music rights holders please  take legal action against any form of infringement,” he added.

The rapper further went ahead and wrote a demand letter to the electronic company through his lawyers, however the company denied having used his song saying that it was not aware neither did they have any reasonable grounds for suspecting substance of copyright in the said video.

While responding to the company through his lawyers, Nonini claimed that the company had refused to admit that it was on the wrong for using his music without his consent, he further went ahead and gave the company seven days to pull down the video, issue a public apology admitting that they were on the wrong and if they ignored his demands then he would have no choice but to institute legal proceedings against the company in the court of law.

While reacting to Nonini’s demand letter netizens on Twitter took to their pages to air their different views, check them out below.
