Moya David Threatens to take Legal Action Against people copying his dance moves

by Chief Okuzo

Kenya’s surprise king Moya David has made it clear that he will not tolerate any copycats or imitators. Speaking at the grand opening of his second Spur in Kitengela, Moya announced his plans to take legal action against those who try to steal his thunder. “Wacha Moya David sasa, saa hii I have trademarked hadi dance yangu,” he said, explaining that he had even trademarked his signature dance moves. “Sometimes I don’t even get credits that I deserve the way I could give credits if used someone’s content,” he added. It’s clear that Moya takes his originality seriously, and he won’t stand for any imitation.

However, it seems that some aspiring TikTokers, like Trevor Silaz, have been trying to follow in Moya’s footsteps. Trevor has been making surprise videos around Nairobi, handing out roses, food, and cash to those in need, and dancing for them. While some might say that Trevor’s approach is similar to Moya’s, Trevor insists that he was just participating in a TikTok challenge and that he was not trying to copy Moya.

Trevor claims that Moya called him and asked him to change his approach, saying that he was copying Moya too much. “That day was tough, he gave me a lecture to the extent of going ahead and threatening me that if I continued I might find my account missing,” Trevor revealed. Despite Moya’s warnings, Trevor has continued to do his own thing, and he argues that Moya shouldn’t worry about the competition. “You know he can not do all this on his own, he can not go around the whole country or whole world surprising everyone. He is in dire need of help” Trevor said.

While it’s clear that Moya values his originality and doesn’t want anyone copying his moves, it’s also true that TikTok is all about challenges and remixes. As Trevor points out, he has his own fans, and his own take on things, and he doesn’t see himself as a direct competitor to Moya. Ultimately, it seems that there’s room for both of them to spread joy and kindness in their own unique ways. I’ve got my own flavor, he’s got his own flavor,” Trevor explained.
