Award winning artistes Drake and the weeknd have boycotted the Grammy’s award for the second year running citing claims of how the winners are chosen. The duo who are chart topping artistes hail from Canada. Expressing his frustrations, in a post The Weeknd stated
‘ I personally don’t care anymore. I have three Grammy’s,which mean nothing to me now. ‘
Drake then stated that because of what he termed as secret commitees, he will no longer allow his label to submit his music to the Grammy’s.’
The Grammys are the first of the Big Three networks’ major music awards held annually (before the Billboard Music Awards in Summer and the American Music Awards in Fall).
The Grammy is considered one of the four major annual American entertainment awards, along with the Academy Awards (for film achievements), the Emmy Awards (for television achievements), and the Tony Awards (for theater achievements).
The first Grammy Awards ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, to honor the musical accomplishments of performers for the year 1958. After the 2011 ceremony, The Recording Academy overhauled many Grammy Award categories for 2012.
According to the Grammy article, With 31 Grammy Awards, Sir George Solti is the artist with the most Grammy wins. Beyoncs is the biggest winner among female artists and singers overall with 28 awards.
