MP Naisula Lesuuda: Why My Opponents Attacked Me On Basis Of My Marital Status

by Jayden Musembi

Samburu West Member of Parliament has discussed how her marital status impacted her political career. While speaking during a previous interview with KTN, MP Naisula Lesuuda stated that her marital status had impacted her political career both in 2017 and 2022.

In different instances, her opponents attacked her on basis of her marital status. However, she had a track record, and this made her stand out in presence of her political opponents.

When she was contesting in 2022, her opponents would ask why she never ran for a political position where she was married. According to the MP, she couldn’t understand her opponents’ arguments.

She stated, “In this election, my opponents said that now I am married, why don’t I go and vie in Baringo where I am married? So the other time I said I was single it was a problem and now that I am married it was a problem. With women, it’s never enough. But in this election, I made sure I worked to a point where this would be a non-issue.”

In 2018, Naisula Lesuuda got married to the love of her life Robert Kiplagat. The colourful wedding took place in Samburu, and it was only attended by close relatives and friends. The duo got engaged in Mountain View estate but the wedding took place at the MP’s home ground.

While making the official announcement in 2018, the MP stated, “Here’s to new beginnings. When we made a decision to not only run for member of the national assembly for Samburu West but also on a Kanu ticket, we knew that it was not going to be an easy task.”
