Major Nameye Khadija alias mejja has stated that he was offered a chance to do a political song but declined. Speaking at Radio Jambo, Mejja claimed that he turned down the offer as he felt it would separate his fans more than unite them.
Recently the Azimio La Umoja One Coalition invited Wasafi’s record artist Diamond Platinumz to perform at Kasarani as the Coalition made its final push to woo voters to vote for them.
Various Kenyan artists were quick to criticize the move claiming that Kenyan artists should be given priority in such occasions. Led by the self proclaimed president of comedy in Africa,Eric Omondi the artistes stated that this was wrong.
Netizens had different reactions some urging Kenyan musicians to develop themselves as a brand and not to be in a haste to criticize Azimio’s move. Some stated that Diamond is a house hold name whose works are known .
Explaining his political stand, Mejja further stated he has never expressed support for any party publicly. He further added that as a human being it was difficult to turn down the opportunity to sing for a political party but had his fans at heart.
Mejja has been successful in his music career. He rose to fame after releasing his first single ‘ Kwani Jana Kuliendaje,’ He Has featured with other Artistes also in the country .
