As the first and second petitioners respectively, Raila Odinga and Martha Karua moved to court today, 22nd August in a bid to challenge the results announced by Wafula Chebukati having declared Ruto as the fifth president-elect.
They further stated that how elections were conducted was not free and fair further adding it was a disregard to the Constitution. Raila further added that during Chebukati’s tenure everything was not in order.
He stated
,’ inability to run the Commissionbyh constitutional principles including observance of democratic values and principles; inability to operate within the collegiate framework as required under Article 138 of The Constitution and the Independent Electoral IndependentiesCommissionon Act No. 9 of 2011,’
Raila Odinga and Martha Karua want the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission( IEBC) should submit all the material from electronic documents, devices, and equipment for the Presidential Election within 48 hours. They should further allow access to all servers used by the commission.
They also stated that the Director of Criminal Investigations( DCI) should be summoned and produce statements, photographs and other equipment that were connected to the Venezuelans found with election materials at JKIA.
Azimio la Umoja also stated that the election body is unfit to hold credible elections and as such Wafula Chebukati should not be the chairperson of the IEBC. According to Raila William Ruto did not meet the 50+1 rule that is required.
