With less than a week to go for Kenyans to elect their desired leaders into office, latest polls have revealed that Azimio La Umoja One Coalition under the stewardship of Raila Odinga leads in the race to state house with 47% as Kenya Kwanza Coalition come in second with a popularity vote of 41%.
Proffesor George Wajackoyah of the Roots party had a popularity rate of 2.9% as Agano’s Party David Mwaure had a score of 0.2 percent. The polls reveal that the two main principals to watch at the August polls are Raila Odinga and William Ruto.
As presidential campaigns heat up , Kenyans will be waiting to see who will ganner votes more so at The Mt Kenya region.
Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta the current president will be leaving office come August 9th in a rather unfashionable manner as they have been lashing out at each other lately. Ruto has been quick to tell off Uhuru claiming he has no good plans for him.
IPSOS director for East and Horn of Africa Samuel Muthoka Explained the polls stating,
,’51 percent of urbanites tell us that they will vote for Raila Odinga. In the rural areas, that is where William Ruto has a stronghold; 45 percent of those in the rural areas said they would vote for Ruto if elections were held today,’
The polls also showed that youth aged between 15-24 would vote for Kenya Kwanza’s flag bearer William Ruto standing at 46%.
The preparedness of the Interim Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) has been questioned as the polls approach. The other day election stickers were found with individuals at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with some Venezuelans. Whether the electoral kits will work remains a test of time.
However IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati stated that they are ready for the elections further adding that the election results will be announced in broad daylight and not at night.
Kenya’s presidential debate saw William Ruto attend while Azimio La Umoja’s camp never attended. With Azimio flag bearer appointing Martha Karua as the deputy and Kenya Kwanza Coalition appointing Irathi Gachagua as the deputy flag bearer, Mt Kenya votes will be divided as it is a region that has been a stronghold of The Jubilee party under the leadership of Uhuru Kenyatta who decamped to Azimio La Umoja.
