Kenyatta University Land Saga: Court Reinstates Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wainana.

Kenyatta University vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wainana has been reinstated by a court days after he was sacked. This comes after the head of Public Service Joseph Wainaina ordered Professor Wainaina to surrender the title belonging to Kenyatta University in a bid to allow the Ministry of Lands and Planning to take part of the land as directed by the Cabinet, a move that Wainaina Refused.

Professor Wainaina took the matter to court through his lawyer Manwa Hosea challenging the states decision. Addressing the Employment and labour Relations, Hosea told the court that sacking the VC was a wrong move.

,’The Head of Public Service continues to act in a manner that completely flouts the provisions of law on the rights of the applicant and continues to breach his rights to fair labour practices’ stated Hosea.

Proffesor Wainaina further urged the court to stop Kenyatta University from advertising the position of a Vice Chancellor as the University’s council was dismissed.

Ruling over the matter justice Jacob Gakeri stated

,’Pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, this honourable court is pleased to issue a temporary order suspending the implementation of the decision contained in the letter dated July 12 by Professor Crispus Kiamba in toto suspending, terminating and/or dismissing the petitioner from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, rendering his position vacant and/or revoking his salary,’

Incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta had earlier stated to deal with individuals who were disrupting government projects claiming to retire with them should upon his retirement. Days after proffesor Wainaina addressing Kenyatta University students Claiming he will be stepping down as the VC in a teary farewell.

Earlier this month In July an activist had moved to court to stop any subdivision of the land claiming the move was unconstitutional as it lacked public participation.
