Azimio leaders led by Raila Odinga have bashed Kenya Kwanza presidential aspirant William Ruto after a leaked audio tape where he stated that he almost slapped president Uhuru resurfaced on social media.
Some of the leaders including Junet Mohammed stated that Ruto is too temperamental to become the next president of Kenya. Junet, who is a close ally of Raila Odinga played Mr Ruto’s audio clip while addressing a rally in Nyanza. He argued that once Azimio takes over the next government, Ruto will face charges.
In the said leaked audio, William Ruto explained that he nearly slapped president Uhuru after the nullification of the 2017 election by the Supreme Court of Kenya. Ruto explained that Uhuru had given up, adding that he encouraged him to stay strong as he was confident that they would still win in the rerun.
Ruto was confident that Jubilee had won the general election since it had the majority numbers in Parliament, senate and county assemblies. The audio tape has raised so many mixed reactions, with a section of Kenyans arguing that the deputy president dropped a humorous statement which meant nothing.
On other reports, Raila advised Mr Ruto to stop calling him abusive names, but instead, focus on selling his manifesto to the people. Raila claimed that Mr Ruto is not the right candidate to take over the next government, adding that he should prepare for a strong political duel in the coming General election .
A few days to the election, the two sides have intensified their campaigns in different parts of the country. Raila Odinga has promised to make the lives of Kenyans easier if he becomes the next president. He argued that Kenyans need to vote in a president who understands the aspect of honest leadership and who can respect the interests of the people.
