
President Kenyatta refutes assertions suggesting his Deputy President William Ruto is by far the most likely successor.
On Friday, February 4, at a special meeting with Jubilee lawmakers at State House, Uhuru suggested that he would depopularize Ruto since the moment for politics had arrived.

“Kutanguali sio kufika…there are people who argue we are late…remind them that we have played this game before,” Mr. Kenyatta told parliament members.
The Jubilee Party declared during the session that it will not have a candidate for president in the upcoming August 9 Election. Mr Kenyatta added that he was voted in 2017 to represent Kenyans, not to campaign prematurely, as his Deputy President does.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have been at odds since the handshake administration was established, and President Kenyatta has subsequently chosen Raila Odinga to be his favored presidential candidate.
