Otile Brown, a Kenyan music sensation on the rise, chose Instagram to voice his thoughts on the future trajectory of Bongo Flavor. Through a series of intriguing Insta stories, he tantalizingly coaxed his followers to brace themselves for the imminent release of his latest album. “My upcoming album ni levels Mzee.. some serious international sounds I ain’t tryna play safe with y’all if you heard #uptownflexep then you know what’s up Hapa hapa mpaka lini ?? boring -that’s why I’m ready to let go. if my album flops” he stated..
In a subsequent post, Otile asked the million-dollar question: Bongo flavor imeisha au wewe unaisikiaje ?.. au data ndio umejizimisha #maoniyangu”
It’s quite a twist considering Otile Brown’s rise to fame was largely intertwined with the adoption of Tanzania’s musical vibes in his own tracks. He collaborated with a slew of Tanzanian musical talents, including Harmonize, Jux, Ali Kiba, Barakah the Prince, and more. However, his recent statements insinuate a departure from the Bongo Flavor scene. Interestingly, his views appear to align with Khaligraph Jones’ convictions in his infamous diss track aimed at Tanzanian rappers, aptly titled “Bongo Favour”. Jones boldly asserted that Bongo Rap perished alongside Tanzania’s legendary rapper, Mangwair.
So, the pressing question remains: What exactly led to the demise of Bongo Flavor? From various credible sources, it seems Bongo Flava’s downfall can be attributed to the overwhelming adoption of the South African genre, Amapiano, by most Tanzanian musicians. This seismic shift thrust Amapiano into the limelight, overshadowing Bongo Flavor as Amapiano tracks garnered massive online streams and downloads post its takeover.
