A resounding chorus of parliamentary voices from Bungoma County has emerged, echoing demands for the liberation of the esteemed local cleric, Eliud Wekesa, popularly known as Yesu wa Tongaren.

Chikati skillfully painted a portrait of Yesu wa Tongaren as a benevolent figure, a man wholly dedicated to interceding for the well-being of others. “His prayers have even extended to Moses Wetang’ula, whom he fervently wishes to see ascend to the presidency. Yesu wa Tongaren deserves to walk free,” underscored the MP.

Chikati went on to dismiss allegations linking the humble preacher to money laundering. “Yesu wa Tongaren is a man of modest means, far removed from the realm of illicit financial manipulations,” he staunchly maintained.

With a deep-rooted connection to the same tight-knit community as Yesu wa Tongaren, Chikati confidently affirmed his intimate familiarity with the preacher’s character. His plea for the release of Yesu wa Tongaren found support in the voice of Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi.

The saga began to unfold on May 10th when Yesu wa Tongaren voluntarily presented himself to the police following a summons by Bungoma police commander Francis Kooli. The revered leader of the New Jerusalem Church was questioned in connection to allegations of irregular religious teachings.

The subsequent day, the Bungoma Court granted authorities permission to detain him for an additional four days pending a mental assessment and the completion of the investigation.
