Former President Uhuru Kenyatta Turns 61 Years Old.

He handed over power to William Ruto.

Uhuru Kenyatta has turned 61 years today with birthday messages being sent to him. The son of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya’s first president, Uhuru was raised in a wealthy and politically powerful Kikuyu family. He attended St. Mary’s School in Nairobi, where he played as a winger for the school’s rugby team. He then went on to study political science and economics at Amherst College in Massachusetts. After his return to Kenya, he started a horticultural business that became quite successful. He also assumed some responsibility for managing his family’s extensive business holdings.

Uhuru Kenyatta has had a decorated political career since being elected into the presidency. Uhuru rose to fame in the early 2000s when then-president Moi nominated him to fill a vacant parliamentary seat. Fast forward to 2002, Moi chose Uhuru as his favorite successor to the presidential seat a move that was criticized by many more so those in power then.
The post-election violence witnessed Uhuru being named as a prime suspect together with his friend-turned-foe William Ruto. The two were tried at the International Criminal Court ( ICC). Uhuru was charged with forming the Mungiki gang that attacked members allied to Raila Odinga.

In 2013, Uhuru and Ruto formed the Jubilee Party with the duo joining hands to clinch the presidency. William Ruto was the leader of URP while Kenyatta led TNA. They would win the 2013 election and later win the 2017 election once again.
Uhuru Would later shake hands with the opposition commander Raila Odinga, Ruto was not very happy with the move. The president and his deputy washed their dirty linen in public and made it clear to citizens that they were not in good terms.

In 2022 William Ruto vied for the presidency appointing Rigathi Gachagua as his deputy. Raila Odinga choose Martha Karua, the iron lady, as his deputy. The latter duo would then be defeated by the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, Azimio led by Raila Odinga stated there was foul play in the election results moving to court to challenge the win. The Supreme Court upheld Ruto’s win.
