Chaos in Nyandarua:Tear Gas Attack on Gachagua Sparks Violent Mob Scene

by Chief Okuzo

Nyandarua County turned into a battlefield reminiscent of a war scene on a fateful day when residents clashed with police in a dramatic showdown. The spark? A man dared to target former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with a tear gas canister during a Thanksgiving event in Shamata Ward.

The suspect, casually dressed and blending seamlessly into the crowd, hurled the tear gas canister toward Gachagua as he prepared to address the gathering. But the attacker’s plot unraveled in moments. Hawkeyed attendees quickly intercepted him as he attempted to flee, setting off a series of events that could only be described as cinematic chaos.

What followed was a scene of pure fury. Stones rained from the skies, and heavy sticks and blows pummeled the man’s helpless frame as enraged residents sought to mete out their version of justice. Even armed police officers found themselves outmatched. When they tried to rescue the suspect from the mob’s wrath, the officers were forced to retreat as the angry crowd retaliated, leaving them fleeing for their lives despite their tear gas and weapons.

How It All Began

On the 28th, Gachagua, accompanied by his usual battalion of allies, descended on Nyandarua County to attend the thanksgiving ceremony of Shamata Ward MCA Gitau Njamba. The event drew thousands of residents and seemed an ideal stage for Gachagua to unleash his trademark fiery rhetoric against the current administration.

But unbeknownst to him, a man in the crowd had other plans. With a determined glare and a tear gas canister in hand, his mission was clear: stop Gachagua at all costs. As Nyandarua Senator John Methu addressed the gathering, the man struck, throwing the canister toward Gachagua.

The swift reaction of Gachagua’s highly trained security team saved the day. They intercepted the projectile and immediately whisked Gachagua into a nearby vehicle, shielding him from harm. Meanwhile, chaos erupted among the attendees.

The Mob’s Wrath

As news of the fracas spread through the crowd, panic and fury took over. Some fled the scene, but Gachagua’s loyal supporters had their sights set on the attacker. They caught up with him and descended upon him with a vengeance. The police tried to intervene, but their efforts were met with resistance as the mob, hell-bent on punishing the culprit, overpowered the officers.

Gachagua’s Response

In the aftermath, Gachagua emerged to condemn the chaos, accusing the current government of orchestrating the attack. He vowed to persevere, declaring that no amount of persecution would deter him or his supporters from defending their cause. The former Deputy President pointed fingers at his political rivals, citing a previous attack during a burial ceremony as part of a broader scheme to silence him.
