Kenyan social media personalities Amber Ray, Amira, and Jamal Roho Safi have found themselves entangled in the drama surrounding the arrest of controversial blogger Maverick Aoko on Friday, August 16th. According to court documents obtained by Plug TV, Aoko has been charged with cyber harassment under Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.
The charge sheet reveals that Aoko allegedly claimed Amber Ray was not responsible for the breakup of Jamal and Amira’s marriage, instead blaming a woman named Beth Wambui Mbuitu, who she identified as the daughter of a powerful police officer. In her now-viral tweet, Aoko wrote:
“Maze it disorients me to say ‘But Amber Ray is innocent. She did not ruin the marriage between Jamal and Amira … Beth did… She’s the daughter of a powerful cop, so if you find me thrown in Kware, refer to this tweet… Ask how Jamal moved from Makanga wa South C to Matatu boss… Ndio naanza’…” The police allege that Aoko knowingly spread false information aimed at tarnishing Beth’s reputation.
This development follows Aoko’s earlier claims that she suspected Defense CS Soipan Tuya was behind her arrest, after she posted provocative tweets accusing Tuya of having an affair with the president. Aoko believes that her allegations against the newly appointed CS might have led to her sudden arrest.
However, Soipan Tuya isn’t the only public figure Aoko has targeted. She has also previously criticized the former Prime Minister, accusing him of being a drunkard and having extramarital affairs with multiple women. Despite warnings from her close friend Babu Owino to avoid attacking politicians’ personal lives, Aoko appears undeterred.
Interestingly, while Aoko’s tweets have targeted the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga’s son, Raila Junior, has publicly joined the call for her release, urging the government to let her go.
Aoko’s fate is set to be decided on Monday, August 19th, when she will appear before the Milimani Law Courts.
