In a recent interview, Nadia Mukami appeared to retract her earlier claim that no female Tanzanian singers are wealthier than her. The African pop sensation, fresh from her triumph at the AFRIMMA awards, where she clinched the title of Best East African Female Artist, found herself in the spotlight once more. When asked whether this victory validated her position above Tanzanian artists like Nandy and Zuchu, Nadia Mukami responded with humility, emphasizing the camaraderie she shares with her Tanzanian counterparts.
“They are my sisters, especially now that I’m collaborating with Nandy. I wouldn’t want to diminish them. Sometimes it’s just online banter,” Mukami remarked. She underscored her belief that each artist possesses unique talents within their respective domains.

Addressing allegations that international awards are susceptible to manipulation by the highest bidder, Mukami vehemently denied such claims. She retorted, “If those awards are for sale, then others should go buy them. Kenyans have a tendency to engage in self-deprecation. If I start a business, they claim it’s not mine, that I’m merely a custodian. If I buy a car, they say I’m not the owner but just promoting a car yard. I’m not here to prove anything. We need to shift away from the culture of self-hate and embrace each other more.”

In reference to her remarks about her wealth compared to Tanzanian artists, accusations of seeking attention or “clout chasing” were leveled against Mukami. She unequivocally denied such suggestions during the interview, asserting that her comments were a form of “online banter” and that she maintained deep respect for her fellow artists. According to Mukami, as long as she remained within the boundaries of respectful discourse, the rest was merely part of the showbiz world.
The Origin of the Reported Online Feud with Tanzanian Singers
The award-winning Kenyan singer, Nadia Mukami, sparked controversy when she boldly declared that no female artist in East Africa was wealthier than her. During a recent interview, Mukami claimed to have made substantial investments in properties, asserting herself as the wealthiest female artist in the region.
“I’m on my own level. In terms of money, I don’t think there is a female artist in Tanzania richer than me. Some of us don’t speak about it, but the land we own, if we were to display our title deeds, people would be astonished. Regarding wealth, especially assets, I don’t believe there’s a female artist in East Africa who can surpass me,” Mukami confidently stated.
When queried about YouTube views and popularity metrics, Mukami acknowledged that some artists employ bot-driven methods to inflate their numbers, admitting that they might surpass her in those aspects. Nonetheless, her declaration about her financial stature set the stage for a heated exchange with Tanzanian artists, leading to further discussion and clarification in subsequent interviews.
