Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Senator of Nairobi County has leveled serious allegations against the Cabinet Secretary of Interior, Kithure Kindiki. Sifuna has accused Kindiki of orchestrating the recent community clashes along the Kisumu-Kericho borders. Taking to Twitter, Sifuna expressed his concerns over the situation.

Sifuna condemned the alleged actions of CS Kindiki, stating, “The casual ordering of police officers to shoot protesters by the CS Interior is an act of pure cowardice. Does Kindiki strike you as someone who has ever shot anyone? Dear Police Officer, it is your duty to disobey illegal orders like that. Let Kindiki wield his own guns and face us himself.”

These remarks from Sifuna came shortly after CS Kindiki disclosed that he had conducted a security briefing involving the security and intelligence committees from Kericho and Kisumu Counties, which fall within the Rift Valley and Nyanza regions.

During the briefing, Kindiki addressed the recent chaos in Sondu Township, which occurred under the guise of border disputes between Kericho and Kisumu Counties. He labeled the instigators of the violence as criminals whose actions cannot be tolerated or excused. The government, he assured, is committed to facilitating peace-building and cohesion efforts among the communities residing in border towns.

Kindiki further emphasized the need to put an end to the culture of impunity, asserting that individuals determined to drive the country into anarchy through violence and the wanton destruction of public and private property must be dealt with firmly and decisively.
