Where is President Museveni? Mystery Surrounds His Whereabouts Amidst Controversial Anti-Gay Law and COVID-19 Diagnosis

by Chief Okuzo

The whereabouts of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni remain unknown. Speculations are rife regarding his safety and well-being, as rumors circulate about a potential jaw-dropping revelation concerning his life and health.

President Museveni catapulted into the spotlight recently with the passing of the highly controversial anti-gay law, which stirred a wave of discontent both within Uganda and across international borders. The United States threatened to withhold support to the country in response to the legislation. Unfazed by the international backlash, Museveni defiantly declared that he would rally Ugandans to be self-sufficient if foreign aid was cut off due to the anti-gay law.

However, mere days after locking horns with the international community, news broke that the Ugandan commander-in-chief had contracted COVID-19. Since then, President Museveni has vanished from public view, leading to growing concerns among Ugandans and netizens alike. The timing of his illness in the wake of his contentious interactions with the global stage has raised questions about whether it is a mere coincidence or something more sinister.

Drawing parallels to the late Tanzanian President John Magufuli, who clashed with the international community before mysteriously succumbing to COVID-19, some online voices have speculated on a potentially sinister connection.

“If President Museveni passes away a month after signing the anti-LGBTQ bill into law, then for sure we are puppets of the West, and they can do whatever they like with Africans. Magufuli’s death wouldn’t be so natural after all, given his anti-COVID sentiments,” commented one Twitter user, reflecting the skepticism surrounding these circumstances.

Another user added, “I’ve never been a fan of #Museveni. But if anything all of a sudden happens to him (God forbid), we all know who is responsible. John Pombe Magufuli was taken down because he was a bulldozer to the West. Of late, Museveni and the anti-gay law have really fanned a fire…”

In the face of mounting speculation, some have even prematurely pronounced President Museveni dead. However, the latest developments indicate that the Ugandan president is alive, kicking, and reportedly on the path to recovery.

“Let people stop spreading propaganda that President MU7 has passed away. I have just spoken to Captain George Michael Mukula, the current NRM vice-chair, and he has assured me that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is still alive, and they even talked a few hours ago. May the Almighty Father grant him more years so that he can continue dealing ruthlessly with the fools who disabled my Facebook page with over 2.6 million followers? I have also instructed my attorneys in the US to file a case in court against that illegal decision,” responded former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, dispelling the rumors of Museveni’s demise.
