In a fiery address to his congregation, Pastor Ezekiel, founder of the New Life Church, has issued a stern warning to churches across Kenya, cautioning them against cozying up to political leaders.
The outspoken pastor minced no words, warning that such affiliations would ultimately dilute the church’s standards and contaminate its purity. “We must get out of political platforms. It will get to a point where no one will listen to us anymore. And this is because we have been bought for a pittance. Already, pastors have taken sides – some for Kenya Kwanza, some for Azimio. If it’s not one, it’s the other,” Ezekiel declared.
He also sounded the alarm against losing sight of the church’s true mission by becoming too closely aligned with political parties, many of which he predicted would eventually collapse.
“Kenya Kwanza will end. Azimio will end. But Jesus remains the same. What will you tell people then? Kanu ended. Jubilee ended. Sometimes I look and wonder,” Ezekiel said.
He went on to criticize the involvement of religious leaders in political campaigns, pointing out that some bishops had prayed for Raila Odinga while others had declared William Ruto as the chosen one.
“We, pastors, need to step away from politics and return to Jesus. Jesus is not for sale, and he’s not a politician,” he emphasized.
Ezekiel also raised concerns about the state of the country, which he described as “burning” and “bleeding.” He called on his fellow pastors to take a stand and provide guidance to their congregations.
“Our country is burning, and I see it bleeding. There’s no change; things are just getting worse. We, pastors, have been bought, some for Kshs 500,000, some for Kshs 1,000,000. Have you ever examined yourselves that one day you might end up burning this country? You know politicians don’t care, but it’s the pastors who haven’t given guidance,” Ezekiel lamented.
He also reminded his colleagues about the role that the church played in the 2007 post-election violence and warned that the same could happen again if religious leaders did not take a stand.
“You’ll burn this country just like in 2007 because the church took a stand. This time around, the church has been sold – some to Azimio, some to Kenya Kwanza. Bishops and pastors, let’s step away from politics, let’s return to Jesus Christ and save this nation,” he urged.
In conclusion, Ezekiel implored his fellow pastors to prioritize their faith over politics, emphasizing that he belongs to Jesus and not any political party or movement.
“I belong to Jesus. I don’t belong to Kenya Kwanza or Azimio. Sometimes I see my country burning, and I feel the pain. You’ll find politicians leading praise and worship, then turning around and insulting their opponents, calling them Satan and evil. Who sold the church for ten shillings? Return to Jesus and drop these bad habits,” Ezekiel pleaded.
