Kenya’s rap royals, Wakadinali, face a lyrical lockdown as their chart-topping tune #geriinengi gets the digital boot from their YouTube channel. The plot thickens as ex-producer Victor Otieno Owitti, a.k.a. #afrvka, stands accused of orchestrating the online ousting over royalties ruckus.
Going through their YouTube channel, the message was clear that Victor wasn’t joking around as we were met with this message “this video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Victor Otieno Owitti”
But wait, there’s more! Two tracks – “geri inengi” and “extra pressure” – feel the wrath of the discontented producer’s pull-down party. The prodigious group has yet to spit a response, but their fanbase is already humming a chorus of disappointment on Twitter.
One disenchanted tweetist quipped, “Alas, former producer wa Wakadinali ametoa video za Rong Rende pale YouTube juu ya royalties including geri inengi na eye contact noma ajab.” A virtual symphony of discontent ensued.
Another perturbed Twitter user chimed in, “Wakadinali songs done by Beats Afriq pulled down due to royalties issues… Among them Geri Inengi, their most commercially successful song. I stand by my words that Wakadinali need corporate guidance.”
Adding to the crescendo of consternation, another fan tweeted, “I Wanted to watch Geri inengi yesterday. I was surprised to search it over 3 times, yet I couldn’t find it.”
Stay tuned as we follow the melodrama unraveling in the world of Wakadinali. Will harmony be restored, or will this rap group’s tunes remain in the shadows of the YouTube abyss
