by Chief Okuzo

Raila Odinga has made an announcement regarding the commencement of nationwide protests to exert pressure on President William Ruto to meet their demands on various issues such as the cost of living and the IEBC selection panel, among others.

The protests will culminate in a momentous demonstration in Nairobi come March 20, 2023. As the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader, Odinga has enumerated 15 reasons for his declaration of Ruto’s administration as “illegitimate.” He accused Ruto of presiding over the looting of public resources, resulting in the escalation of the cost of living.

Additionally, Odinga criticized the overburdening of Kenyans with taxes and the Cabinet’s decision to lift the ban on GMO imports, contending that it will ruin Kenya’s food supplies. Odinga also impugned the selection criteria for the IEBC commissioners and claimed that Ruto is scheming to manipulate the 2027 presidential election.

Moreover, Odinga accused Ruto of capturing the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary branches of the government, thereby turning him into a dictatorial leader. Furthermore, he expressed disapproval of the selection of personnel for the Public Service Commission and other significant government positions, arguing that only two tribes have been represented in these appointments.

Odinga further accused Ruto of tribalizing the civil service and targeting members of certain ethnic communities based on their political preferences. He also implicated some influential individuals in the current administration in the killing of ICC witnesses, including Meshack Yebei, and accused other members of the current government of illicit land-grabbing.

Finally, Odinga impugned the integrity of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and contended that he is unsuitable for holding public office.
