Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has once again taken to the streets to stage a peaceful demonstration in protest of the country’s high cost of living. This time, he stood outside of Parliament, drawing attention from both the public and the police.
After spending the night in police custody, Eric’s girlfriend Lynn took to Instagram to express her dismay over how the country treats those who stand up for their rights. She decried the government’s tendency to rely on taxation, which only serves to deepen the poverty of hardworking people struggling to make ends meet. “Welcome to Kenya where we experience the same problems with different governments. Taxation has become the norm of dragging people deeper into the shackles of poverty.” She said.
In her passionate statement, Lynn pointed out that the doors to new opportunities are always open for the rich and powerful, while the poor are left to fend for themselves. “Where hardworking people struggle the most to foot their bills. Where doors to new opportunities are always shattered for the poor and always open to the rich and those in power!” She added.
She added that Kenya’s governance has been stuck in a vicious circle for too long and that people are often afraid to speak out against the status quo. “Kenya’s governance has been a vicious circle for the longest time now and people never speak up due to the ‘fear ‘ instilled in them.” She stated.

However, Lynn praised Eric for his tenacity in making his voice heard and urged others to recognize his bravery in the face of adversity. “It takes a tenacious person to make such a male. Let’s give him all the flowers he deserves” Lynn concluded.
As the story continues to make waves online, it seems that Eric’s message has struck a chord with many who share his frustrations with the current state of affairs in Kenya.
