The death of Fridah Warau Kamuyu, a 22-year-old woman who passed away on January 17 in Kiambu County’s Titanic dam, has left many questions unanswered. This enigmatic young woman lived a life shrouded in secrecy, so much so that when she passed away, none of her friends or family members seemed to be aware. In fact, it wasn’t until detectives went searching for her parents that her body was identified in a mortuary freezer.
Along with Tirus Maina Gikonyo, Fridah met her demise when the car he was driving reversed into the waters. Gikonyo was quickly identified by his family members, but Fridah was a mystery. It took detectives until January 26 to identify her through fingerprints and trace her roots back to Murang’a County’s Njiku village.
Her lack of identification documents and the complete silence from her social network has left investigators scratching their heads. How could someone so young and beautiful slip through the cracks like this?
According to the police file, Fridah had no identification documents on her when she died, and it was only through fingerprint imaging that her identity was confirmed. Her relatives eventually identified her, and an autopsy revealed she died of drowning, with bruises on her left wrist. She was the second-born in a family of four, held a diploma in hospitality, and had graduated in November of the previous year.
Her file also revealed that while she was in school in Thika, she grew distant from her family and was running a money transfer agency in the town. She had been seeing the deceased male for the past four months and was living with him in a rental house in Makongeni estate.
Kiambu County Detective boss Richard Mwaura says the investigation will determine whether the drowning was accidental or self-inflicted malice. The outcome will be determined by mechanical analysis of the vehicle, the autopsies, toxicology reports, and witness statements. The mystery surrounding Fridah Warau Kamuyu’s death continues.
