Edwin Chiloba: the fashion guru who was labeled satanic due to his sexuality

by Chief Okuzo

Born in Elgeyo Marakwet, Edwin’s life was engulfed with misery at a young age following the death of his mother. Having no mother figure in his life, his precious dad Played the role of both his mother and father, however, death would come knocking again and rob him of his lovely father while still in high school.

Before his death, Edwin said that his dad was his source of uniqueness and that he was a man who would cross the ocean just to see his child smile.

After his father’s death, Edwin would later hop from one relative to another seeking financial support, his zeal for having a successful life saw him score a B- in his KCSE exams.

He later joined Moi University’s west campus pursuing a degree in education. It is during his university experience that Chiloba found fulfillment in fashion and this prompted him to attend photoshoots and pageants while wearing attires that made his family uncomfortable.

His newly found lifestyle conceived endless backlash as some labeled him satanic due to his mode of dressing and this resulted in him dropping out of the university.

Having lost hope in his life as a fashion designer, Edwin moved to Nairobi where he met a friend who offered to sign him in his modeling agency where he invented mind-blowing designs that later captured the attention of a white couple who came to his rescue once again and enrolled him in a fashion and design school where here he sharpened his designing skills.
